In 1983 and 1984, Artie Romero produced Video Game All Stars, a series which aired on KOAA TV, the Southern Colorado NBC affiliate. For the third and final episode he hired experienced TV executive Larry Frost as director, who enticed comedian and The Brothers Garcia creator Jeff Valdez to host the show. Jeff interviewed players and did a few man on the street interviews. This episode includes puppet work by Melvin Grier and a precious cameo by Mel's son Gabriel. This show is considered by many to be of historical value, since video games have become the most lucrative entertainment category in the world. In 2022, clips from the first episode of Video Game All Stars were licensed by The Smithsonian to be included in Pause and Replay, a series of films about the history of video games that is on public display in the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History. Most recently, prominent filmmaker Isaac Goeckeritz licensed clips from VGAS episode one for his latest film, Chexx, The Story of an Arcade Icon. The nine minute minidoc premiered on YouTube January 22, 2026. Video Game All Stars is Copyright © 1983, 1984 Everyman Studios and Artie Romero Go back
